Review: My First Fabric Design On Spoonflower

A short while ago I signed up to a site called Spoonflower. The site allows people to sell their own designs printed onto fabrics. Once printed and proofed, the designs can then be sold on the Spoonflower site and you can also order quantities of your own design.

I thought this was a great way to get started in fabric design without the costs and equipment that I would need so I signed up and uploaded some of my artwork onto it. This morning, I received the fabric so I could check that it looked right, and then I was

able to add the fabric for sale on the site.

The delivery of my fabric swatch took just over two weeks to reach me from the US and I was pleased with the quality of the print. I ordered mine on cotton but there are plenty of other fabric choices and there are many options so you can choose different variations of the design.

I like being able to sell my own designs and I’m not just limited to selling it on Spoonflower. I can add the designs to

any other products that I like. I have a range of designs ready to go but I’m going to see how well the first one sells first before I upload any more or by any more swatches.

The swatch was a reasonably big piece of fabric so I can make it into something like a coin purse and sell it on eBay or a craft site. I could also list the my fabric designs for sale on some of the craft sites or on eBay provided that the commission I made would make it viable.

Spoonflower is easy to get started with and the fabrics on there are inspiring to news designers. If you have designs to sell then branching out and making them into your own unique fabrics is a good option.
