A few years ago I treated myself to a netbook as I could see some of the advantages, but netbooks also have some disadvantages too, and I will detail the advantages and disadvantages of a netbook in the following article.
The Advantages:
The biggest advantage of the netbook is the portability of them. They are lightweight and portable and easy to carry around. I didn’t like the thought of lagging my laptop around the house so my netbook is ideal for carrying around and means I can watch TV and work on my computer at the same time.
Another great advantage of the
netbook is the start up speed. My laptop can take up to ten minutes before it is ready for me to log on and get onto the Internet. My netbook is ready to use in less than two minutes from switching on, and enables me to save more time than using the netbook would.Netbooks are also affordable. Mine cost a little over £200 when I brought it brand new and it was by a top brand name as well. A laptop by the same brand would have cost me nearly three times as much.
The Disadvantages
The biggest issue I have found with my netbook is the smaller screen. This
means that some of the options aren’t always available on some sites, even if I do minimise the screen. For instance, I couldn’t see how to change a document I had uploaded and it wasn’t until I used my laptop that I could see the “edit” buttons, which weren’t visible on the smaller screen.There is no CD/DVD drive on the laptop I brought either, which is also a big disadvantage. Although CD drives are affordable enough to buy so it needn’t be a major problem.
The other issue I have found is the lack of storage space, but that can be overcome too. Once I had installed a few programmes and written some documents, I found myself running out of storage space pretty fast.
Despite the disadvantages, I do feel that netbooks are still well worth buying and mine has enabled me to get more work done than I would have without one.
