Review: The Art Of Drawing Manga

There are many books on drawing Manga available online so choosing the best one to buy can be difficult. The first book  I chose was The Art of Drawing Manga because the reviews were pretty good and it looked like it would be an easy book to learn from.

The book starts by detailing the materials that you will need to get started and then breaks down the drawing process step-by-step.

In the book it is explained how Manga characters begin with basic shapes and shows the reader how to build on the shapes. The step-by-step process shown in the book makes

it easy to follow and makes it seem much less daunting when it is all broken down.

There are separate chapters on drawing hands, noses, eyes etc. and the step-by-step process shows you how to bring it all together.

I’m concentrating on basic shapes and outlines at the moment, and then I am adding the detail in

when I’ve finished with those. I need to learn a lot more about shading an colouring and once I have learned that, then I’ll be really be able to bring my characters to life, and perhaps be ready to share them with everyone else.

The characters in the book all look fantastic and I doubt I’ll ever be able to draw as well as that, but this book is great for starting out and showing readers that it does not really have to be complicated.
